This article analyzes the problem of community in the early sociology of Aníbal Quijano during the period 1962-1965. The theoretical framework that was deployed during these years is a “critical sociology” whose object are two Peruvian “epochal crossroads”: The formation of the cholo group and a set of peasant conflicts. The hypothesis is that from these investigations emerges a conception of the community with emphasis on its dimension of emancipation called “community of transition”, which opens a line of research into the author’s work.
