Resumen

BLANCO, Emilio. The sociological perspective on rationality and educational inequality. Rev. Mex. Sociol [online]. 2025, vol.87, n.1, pp.69-96.  Epub 21-Feb-2025. ISSN 2594-0651.  https://doi.org/10.22201/iis.01882503p.2025.1.62703.

A synthesis of the rationalist sociological approach used to explain educational inequalities is presented, whose flexibility moves it away from classical utilitarianism. Special attention is given to Breen and Goldthorpe’s proposal, and the tests and criticisms to which this model has been subjected. Finally, it provides a proposal of integration between rational and value/cultural components of educational decisions, as well as to adapt this proposal to the social, institutional and educational situation of Latin America.

Palabras llave : rationality; educational inequality; educational transitions.
