Abstract

VELASCO DOMINGUEZ, María de Lourdes. Care policy agendas and social inequalities in Latin America. Rev. Mex. Sociol [online]. 2024, vol.86, n.4, pp.905-933.  Epub Nov 22, 2024. ISSN 2594-0651.  https://doi.org/10.22201/iis.01882503p.2024.4.62666.

In the context of the Latin American care crisis, this article analyzes the policy agendas on long-term care developed by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) and their effects on the inequalities that structure the social organization of care. Based on an intersectional feminist approach and a critical political discourse analysis, it is argued that while ECLAC promotes the human right to care and overcoming social inequalities, the IDB promotes a care market that could exacerbate such inequalities.

Keywords : care; public policy; social inequalities; long-term care; IDB; ECLAC.
