Abstract

RINCON MORERA, Andrés. Femicides in Mexico and the moral performatization of violence. Rev. Mex. Sociol [online]. 2024, vol.86, n.4, pp.841-870.  Epub Nov 22, 2024. ISSN 2594-0651.  https://doi.org/10.22201/iis.01882503p.2024.4.62664.

Based on the main postulates of the theory of the civil sphere and cultural pragmatics, a model of analysis is proposed to understand how specific cases of femicide become significant social facts and moral performances. Empirically, the case of Ingrid Escamilla is analyzed in depth, observing how it was positioned in public opinion, how it became a phenomenon that raised multiple normative disputes of a moral nature and how it was symbolically and narratively constructed, staging different intertwined accusatory imputations based on different symbolic codes.

Keywords : Ingrid Escamilla; femicides; moral performance; violence; civil sphere theory; cultural pragmatics.
