ALLIER MONTANO, Eugenia; MUSOTTI, Sara y MEJIA ARREGUI, Erandi. State violence in Mexico: The political exile of 1968. Rev. Mex. Sociol [online]. 2024, vol.86, n.3, pp.717-748. Epub 09-Ago-2024. ISSN 2594-0651. https://doi.org/10.22201/iis.01882503p.2024.3.62616.
For decades, Mexico has been considered-both in academia and the public space-as a country of refuge. Investigation and public discussion on its role as a country that expels its own citizens for political reasons has been scant. This article seeks to contribute to the study of this phenomenon by examining the case of exiles who had participated in the student movement of 1968, using primary sources, such as interviews, newspapers, and government archives. By doing this, it also seeks to place Mexico into the broader debate on violence and political persecution in Latin America during the Cold War.
