Abstract

BROWN GROSSMAN, Flor  and  NAVA BOLANOS, Isalia. Transitions of labor-force participation among older Mexicans. Rev. Mex. Sociol [online]. 2024, vol.86, n.3, pp.665-690.  Epub Aug 09, 2024. ISSN 2594-0651.  https://doi.org/10.22201/iis.01882503p.2024.3.62608.

This research analyzes the labor market transitions of people aged 55 and older in Mexico, focusing on their transition from non-availability to full-time employment, part-time employment or availability, and differentiating between women and men. It estimates multi-state models that show the onset of active aging as reflected in the transition of women to part-time employment and men to full-time employment. One explanatory factor is that unpaid domestic work reduces women’s opportunities to transition to part-time employment.

Keywords : active aging; paid work; unpaid domestic work; working time; multi-state models.
