This paper studies the communicative practices of the movement United Peoples of the La Antigua Basin for Free Rivers in Veracruz, Mexico. Its aim is to identify key elements of the local cultural perspective that underpinned collective resistance against territorial dispossession and environmental destruction. After analyzing the strategies and messages deployed in public protests, it describes the role of communication in structuring and strengthening social mobilization based on collective values about the territory; these values include biocultural identity, the defense of the local way of life, and environmental rights.
