There have been several changes in the political system that have opened up spaces for women's participation. In Mexico, an increasing number of women are candidates or hold elected positions. This article reviews public opinion on this issue. The aim is to analyze and interpret citizens' perceptions, images, opinions and social representations of women politicians, especially women candidates. To this end, a survey was conducted in Mexico City in April 2012.
