Abstract

DUQUE DAZA, Javier. Protestant Religious Communities and their Shift towards Political and Electoral Issues in Colombia, 1990-2007. Rev. Mex. Sociol [online]. 2010, vol.72, n.1, pp.73-111. ISSN 2594-0651.

This article studies the emergence, characteristics and electoral dynamics of Protestant political organizations in Colombia. Based on an approach using that combines social and institutional factors (cleavages and institutional change), the author proposes that the emergence of these organizations in the 1990s implied the combination of an expansive, consolidated organizational tradition of these groups with a new framework of opportunities that allowed for their successful participation in elections and access to Congress and other sub-national organizations.

Keywords : Electoral dynamics; confessional political organizations; Protestantism; Colombia; elections.
