HEAU LAMBERT, Catherine y GIMENEZ, Gilberto. The Social Representation of Violence in the Mexican Popular Trova. Rev. Mex. Sociol [online]. 2004, vol.66, n.4, pp.627-659. ISSN 2594-0651.
Since the 19th century, corridos have developed social representations of honor and machismo, courage and bravery, cunning and contraband, linked to the legitimate or illegitimate exercise of violence. This study uses the concept of "sociogram" as a tool for cultural analysis. The idea of violence in popular culture, particularly in the corridos about "brave men" concerning honor, and recently in the narco-corridos, has a different meaning from the one people normally assign it. What may be an affirmation of honor or demand for rights in one case may have a transgressive or illegal sense in another.
