Abstract
SALAZAR ELENA, Rodrigo. The Bolivian Elections of 2002: The Limits of Institutional Reformism. Rev. Mex. Sociol [online]. 2004, vol.66, n.1, pp.23-56. ISSN 2594-0651.
In 1994, Bolivia concluded a series of reforms of the constitution oriented towards promoting the representativeness of the regime. The electoral success of antiestablishment actors during the last elections revealed the shortcomings of these reforms. This flaw is due as much to the technical deficiencies of the design adopted as to the inability of any institutional design to prevent discontent regarding public policies.
Keywords : form of government; electoral system; party system; political representation; electoral results; ethnic cleavage.
