Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) is a spectroscopic technique widely applied in several areas of chemical, biological and health sciences. In related careers, NMR is an essential part of the curriculum in educational programs at the undergraduate level. According to our teaching experience, the first approach of students to learn NMR is through the reading of bibliography usually written in English. Hence, we have detected initial difficulties, because in addition to the problems associated with the domain of a foreign language, students also deal with the understanding of chemistry, quantum physics, and mathematics topics. In this sense, the objective of this article is to have available instructive material that supports students and teachers to review basic concepts of NMR theory with some examples and analogies. The reading activity of this text a priori to the first NMR class in organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, instrumental chemistry, and spectroscopy courses is recommended.
