Combinations of n elements taken two by two, quantify the total number of possible pairs formed from n elements. If each of these pairs is assigned an attractive potential, then the total attractive magnitude between pairs of the same species and the attractive magnitude between different pairs can be calculated. This treatment can be extended to a greater number of first neighbors and then to answer the question about the total or partial solubility between different liquids through the construction of the corresponding mixing Gibbs free energy function.
