PALACIOS-ARREOLA, Margarita Isabel y HUERTA-LAVORIE, Raúl. CRISPR / Cas, the system awarded the 2020 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. How do Molecular Scissors work?. Educ. quím [online]. 2021, vol.32, n.3, pp.196-201. Epub 14-Mar-2022. ISSN 0187-893X. https://doi.org/10.22201/fq.18708404e.2021.3.79857.
The following document contains a didactic sequence designed as a tool for teachers to share the knowledge of the technology around the CRISPR/Cas system, often called Molecular Scissors and its relevance in genome edition, with students of Middle School to Undergraduate levels. The design of this sequence considers the review or introduction to biochemical and molecular biology models, concepts, and methodologies related to genetic engineering. Moreover, the research timeline that led to the discovery of the system, the development of the technology for its applications and the Nobel Prize granted to two of the involved scientists sets a perfect context to encourage reflection about the collaborative character of science and the boundary between the so called basic and applied science.
