PEREZ, Ana Raquel y FERNANDEZ, Adriana Cecilia. The laboratory as a teaching tool applied to the study of coarse disperse systems. A practice on the magma of magnesium hydroxide. Educ. quím [online]. 2018, vol.29, n.4, pp.69-78. ISSN 0187-893X. https://doi.org/10.22201/fq.18708404e.2018.4.63128.
In this work we describe laboratory experiments focused in a very usual preparation in pharmacy: the magma of magnesium hydroxide, also known as milk of magnesia. Its realization allows the student to characterize relevant factors for the stability of a coarse disperse system (CDS), with the aim of defining the CDS type, the optimal concentration of electrolyte producing maximal flocculation, and the nature of the flocculant ion responsible for the phenomenon. The goal of this practice is to ensure that students develop the necessary knowledge and skills useful for the design and characterization of suspensions of common use in pharmacy.
