The following paper presents a social and history timeline about platinum from its discovery in Colombia to its refinement and exploitation. This paper is divided into two parts: the first includes social, political and economic events that took place in Spain and America during the Spanish colonization period and the second, the scientific events that emerged from the interest in the extraordinary physical and chemical properties that make of this element a world key point.
