The present work presents a historical study, and in additon provides bibliographical and photographic new information about the celebration of the IX Congress of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry in Madrid (1934). This Congress took place in a Republican period where the importance of these events (due to the fact that the most illustrious chemists of the epoch got together), and turned the Spanish capital into the worldwide center of chemistry during those days.
