Abstract

PEREZ SALAZAR, Gabriel; AGUILAR EDWARDS, Andrea  and  GUILLERMO ARCHILLA, María Ernestina. El meme en internet: Usos sociales, reinterpretación y significados, a partir de Harlem Shake. Argumentos (Méx.) [online]. 2014, vol.27, n.75, pp.79-100. ISSN 0187-5795.

Internet memes are addressed as expressive signs used within online forums and social network sites. Based in a proposed conceptual definition for this phenomena, the signification of the Harlem Shake meme is inferred from the expressions observed in a group of the Coahuila´s Autonomous University Communications’ students. The aim was to identify its meaning, as well as the affiliation sense that prevails in reference to the interpretative communities that use, incorporate and re-elaborate this meme. Main results suggests that, when participating in such re-elaboration, this represents a collective expression of self-assertion, against the otherness.

Keywords : meme; internet; social network sites; identity.
