The tourist development of Quintana Roo shore began in the 1970 decade, has been framed by policies aimed at sustainable development. The whole region has undergone an accelerated growth in tourist infrastructure as in population. The consequent occupation of the territory has displayed an exponential growth in the localities near to the tourist centers. The territory and its ecosystems has suffered the repercussions of the development which has generated an incipient environmental crisis. The analysis of spatial and temporal indicators as the infrastructure and population growth of, territory occupation, the environmental legislation and the environmental quality, was made. To go beyond the consideration of the framework for viable development within economic development has been privileged at the disadvantage of the environment, a review has been made about territorial ordering such as the mechanisms of evaluation and environmental management.
