RODRIGUES, Carlos Alberto; MOREIRO-GONZALEZ, José Antonio e BAHIA, Eliana Maria dos Santos. Emergency Management in Information and Documentation Programs in Spain. Investig. bibl [online]. 2025, vol.39, n.105, pp.181-196. Epub 09-Abr-2026. ISSN 2448-8321. https://doi.org/10.22201/iibi.24488321xe.2025.105.59071.
Emergency management in archives, libraries, museums, and documentation centers constitutes an important initiative for documentary and cultural heritage preservation in case of natural or human-caused disasters. It stands for a promising area for information professionals in Spain, where a substantial number of these information units lack emergency management capabilities. The objective is to analyze the presence of emergency management in course curricula taught in Information and Documentation degrees in Spain. The methodology involved reviewing and analyzing the content of every course included in the curricula of the degrees studied. The results show that none of the programs have courses centered on this field, although 54.55 % of the programs have courses focused on topics related to emergency management, and all programs have at least one subject related to this topic. In conclusion, emergency management should be more present in course curricula. We recommend including the topic in the mandatory preservation and conservation courses and in five programs that do not include it yet.
