PAZ ENRIQUE, Luis Ernesto; MARTIN MARTIN, Alberto  e  HERNANDEZ ALFONSO, Eduardo Alejandro. Library and Information Studies in Ibero-America: Analysis of Scientific Production. Investig. bibl [online]. 2025, vol.39, n.105, pp.47-66.  Epub 09-Abr-2026. ISSN 2448-8321.  https://doi.org/10.22201/iibi.24488321xe.2025.105.59054.

The study aims to delineate the scientific field of library and information studies in Ibero-America by analyzing the scientific production generated in the region and providing a practical conceptual framework that facilitates research and professional practice. We employ a descriptive, longitudinal, and retrospective approach utilizing theoretical methods, including the analytical-synthetic, the historical-logical, the inductive-deductive, and the structural-systemic, as well as empirical methods, including classical documentary analysis and bibliometrics, to analyze 8 951 documents indexed in Web of Science from 2014 to 2024. Scientific production exhibits exponential growth since 2018, highlighting the importance of inter-institutional collaborations and thematic specialization in the field. The focus areas include information science, library science, history, and computing. The most productive institutions are from Brazil, Spain, and Mexico. We conclude that scientific production in Ibero-America reflects a developing field, interrelated with the theory and practice of information management. Additionally, we emphasize the need to enhance collaboration networks and the training of professionals to address challenges of the evolving digital environment. Finally, we advocate for the promotion of interdisciplinarity and for addressing ethical issues related to information in a global context.
