HERNANDEZ PEREZ, Jonathan e GUZMAN CONTRERAS, Ángel. Disinformation in Electoral Times: Responses from Argentina, Chile, Colombia, and Mexico (2018-2023) Jonathan Hernández Pérez and Ángel Guzmán Contreras. The article analyzes media responses to disinformation during the recent presidential elections in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, and Mexico between 2018 and 2023. The study concentrates on the propagated disinformation narratives and the strategies that diverse social actors developed to counteract them. Through an exploratory and documentary analysis, we encountered that disinformation narratives focused mainly on discrediting candidates and raising doubts about the legitimacy of electoral processes. Among the several implemented responses to counter this, data verification was the most common strategy. Moreover, verification platforms, communication media, civil society organizations, governments and electoral institutions collaborated to identify and deny false information. The research underscores the importance of ongoing investigation and the development of tailored counter-disinformation strategies for each country, emphasizing the need to enhance citizens’ information literacy skills in the face of evolving technologies like artificial intelligence.
