RAMOS CHAVEZ, Héctor Alejandro. Information in Digital Social Networks and Its Risks Shaping Citizen Behaviors, Beliefs, and Attitudes. Investig. bibl [online]. 2024, vol.38, n.101, pp.109-124. Epub 07-Abr-2025. ISSN 2448-8321. https://doi.org/10.22201/iibi.24488321xe.2024.101.58933.
The information obtained through information and communication technologies, mainly digital social networks, has brought great advantages associated with generating larger amounts of knowledge and participation in multiple areas of the collective life of individuals. However, there are some aspects in which it is advisable to carry out further study to avoid recognizing only the positive outcomes of this phenomenon. This work resumes three aspects considered as unaddressed in this topic: the entrenchment of ideas -from a path dependence approach- that hinders the enrichment of political stances and public opinions; the loss of weak links due to the increasing confinement of ideas in digital social networks; and the potential political alienation prompted by official digital information unaccompanied by the consultation of other sources or analysis approaches that may enrich citizen perspective. The conclusions point out the necessity of considering these and other phenomena in the forthcoming analyses to improve the processes of citizen digital information obtainment.
