CULEBRO-TRUJILLO, Rafael et al. Evaluation of the Curriculum to Train Librarians in Health Science, A New Proposal. Investig. bibl [online]. 2017, vol.31, n.71, pp.219-234. ISSN 2448-8321. https://doi.org/10.22201/iibi.0187358xp.2017.71.57817.
Curriculum assessment entails a hermeneutic understanding and account of an educational program. In countries such as Chile, high schools have redesigned their Librarian Assistant curricula on the basis of competencies. The aim of this paper is to describe the curriculum for the Librarian Assistant course in second and third level medical facilities in Mexico.
This study provides a description of the objectives, income profile, practices and social services, as well as a curriculum maps of Assistant Librarian training courses in second and third level medical facilities. The curriculum of the Librarian Assistant training course and distribution of subjects in each module and their associated thematic content and structure were examined. The study found that the Librarian Assistant course is focused on biomedical topics, rather than on librarian training or the attitudes and duties of Librarian Assistants. Moreover, the study found that there is duplication of contents across several course modules. Unlike other curricula that relate to the training of assistant librarians, our current plan does not take into account several points. As such, we suggest a curricular redesign be undertaken with the support of library and teaching specialists.
