Abstract

This study was accomplished to determine the mycotrophic status between arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi and sugarcane plantations from the Chontalpa, México. Samplings rhizosphere were conducted over seven soils subunits to quantify abundance percentage spores, colonization roots and to identify morphological fungal species presenton these sites. Our results show that sugarcane is associated with 16 morphospecies of mycorrhizal fungi of four genera; 88.9 % of colonized roots and abundance of 943 spores per 100 g of soil, on average, at the different soil subunits were observed. In general, soils are slightly acidic (pH 5.4-6.7), medium to low fertility (CEC16-42) with low phosphorus and nitrogen. The soil with the highest number of morphospecies mycorrhizal fungi (14) was fluvic Cambisol with predominance of genera Glomus and Acaulospora.
