PINA, Juan Manuel y CHAVEZ ARELLANO, María Eugenia. High School Students’ Perception of the LGBTTTIQA+ Community. Sociológica (Méx.) [online]. 2024, vol.39, n.110, pp.217-248. Epub 14-Feb-2025. ISSN 2007-8358.
This article analyzes what written words high school students use to define the members of the LGBTTTIQA+ community. To do this, the authors designed and applied an instrument of association. The participants were asked to think about, write, and specify the three words they associate with people from that community. To systematize the information, the authors used the natural semantic networks technique. The results were that, for the students from both schools, the most frequently mentioned and pondered word was “discrimination.” Later, the different words were classified into the following categories: denunciation or complaint, values and rights, acceptance, LGBTTTIQA+ movement, and stigmas. The category with the highest semantic weight was acceptance, followed by denunciation, and then values and rights. The categories with the lowest semantic weight were LGBTTTIQA+ and stigmas.
