Abstract

RAMIREZ PAREDES, Juan Rogelio. Socio-musical Identities in Mexico City: Heavy Metal. Sociológica (Méx.) [online]. 2024, vol.39, n.109, pp.231-280.  Epub Feb 14, 2025. ISSN 2007-8358.

This essay attempts to establish heavy metal’s social traits as a socio-musical identity. To do this, the author delves deeply into the genre’s historical origins and its strictly musical character. He then establishes a conceptual basis that allows us to understand metal-heads as a collective subject, that is, what has created their social listening sense. Finally, he reconstructs the history of the elements that make up the fan base as a socio-musical identity in Mexico City.

Keywords : heavy metal; appropriation; socio-musical identity.
