Abstract
ANGELES GARCIA, César; ORTEGA HERNANDEZ, Juan Javier and MENDOZA CONTRERAS, Sofia. Notes on the Concept of Commitment Howard S. Becker. Sociológica (Méx.) [online]. 2023, vol.38, n.108, pp.265-286. Epub Apr 12, 2024. ISSN 2007-8358.
The concept of commitment is widely used, has been little analyzed formally. It contains an implicit explanation of a mechanism that produces an ongoing form of human behavior. Commitments arise when a person links others’ interests with a constant line of activity when making a side or additional bet. Side bets are often the result of the person’s participation in social organizations. To fully understand commitments, an analysis of the value system within which these side bets are made is needed.
