The aim of this article is to delve into the influence the Guanajuato government 2017 Centers for Social Advancement Program had on increasing social cohesion in the poor, highly marginalized areas it was implemented in. The study concludes that no significant relation can be drawn between participation and the existence of greater social cohesion compared to the places where it was not implemented. This can be explained in part by the dynamic of the social program itself. The author considers that the article’s main contribution is that it offers a tool, the social cohesion index, to evaluate these kinds of programs that aim to influence this topic of worldwide importance.
