HAIDAR, Victoria. Leaders Led? Psycho-sociologically Problematizing Mass Leadership in Latin America (From the Viewpoint of Simultaneity). Sociológica (Méx.) [online]. 2022, vol.37, n.105, e0005. Epub 18-Nov-2022. ISSN 2007-8358.
This article revisits the writings of José María Ramos Mejía, Carlos Octavio Bunge, Euclides da Cunha, and Laureano Vallenilla Lanz to display the heterogeneities in the psycho-sociological problematization of leadership as it emerges, often identified with the ideas put forward in the work of Gabriel Tarde and Gustave Le Bon. By comparing from the perspective of simultaneity the latters’ representation to the work of the former, the author shows that combining a psychosocial viewpoint with another socio-historical stance gave rise to another vision of leadership in Latin America, a vision sensitive both to the similarities between the leader and the masses and the reversibility and reciprocity of leadership.
