Resumen

COMPTE NUNES, Guillem. Continuities and Discontinuities in Hegemony in the Political Utopia: The Case of the National Citizens’ Congress in Mexico City and Its Post-Partisan Utopia. Sociológica (Méx.) [online]. 2019, vol.34, n.96, pp.319-361. ISSN 2007-8358.

In the face of the political hegemony of representative democracy, a post-partisan political Utopia is emerging in Mexico, embodied in several anti-establishment groups. This article is based on the investigation into the degree to which one of these Utopian mediations, the National Citizens’ Congress, breaks with the “party-based” hegemony and/or provides continuity for it. The author presents an analysis of the group’s collective practices in Mexico City based on an ethnographical study carried out from 2015 to 2017. The results indicate the less rather than more noteworthy reproduction of political hegemony, despite a discourse that apparently breaks with the “party-ocracy.” The author contextualizes this conclusion using the literature and suggests a way to avoid hegemonic co-optation.
