This article analyzes the spread of medicalization to the sphere of food and diet. The question researched is in the area of production and circulation of meanings about care and improving health implied in the medicalization of food in contemporary Argentina. The author conceptualizes a mechanism of medicalization in the diet and examines its social manifestation through the analysis of publicity, the media, and norms. Her main findings consist of the identification of operations of fragmenting and making foods more technical, mechanisms for subjectivizing food, and technologies of dietary governance for improving health.
