Abstract

CAILLE, Alain. For an Anti-utilitarian Sociology. Sociológica (Méx.) [online]. 2015, vol.30, n.86, pp.9-30. ISSN 2007-8358.

This article seeks to rekindle the spirit of classical sociology with three epistemological proposals: first, thinking of sociology as a general social science; second, assuming the normative challenges without hiding behind some kind of misinterpreted axiological neutrality; and third, surpassing the utilitarian vision of society that inspires an economic model of the social sciences. The idea is to provide continuity for the projects of Marx, Tocqueville, Durkheim, Weber, Simmel, Mead, Elias, Mauss, Parsons, etc. It is our turn to bring them up to date.

Keywords : utilitarianism; objectivity; sociological theory; epistemology; economicism.
