Abstract

GIORDANO, Pedro Martín. The Vicissitudes of Change in Talcott Parsons's General Theory of Action. Sociológica (Méx.) [online]. 2015, vol.30, n.85, pp.197-232. ISSN 2007-8358.

In order to contribute to the debate about the timeliness of the categorical framework of sociology, the aim of this article is to deal with the classic problem of social change according to the ideas developed by Talcott Parsons. With that aim, it combines two tasks: on the one hand, identifying the different stages in his work, linked according to the hypothesis that every transformation of the conceptual apparatus has a corresponding modification in his theory of change; and, on the other hand, a holistic inquiry that makes it possible to see an evolution within Parsons's conceptual framework, since the theory of change moves from being a residual category to becoming a problematizing element.

Keywords : social change; Parsons; functionalism; differentiation; evolution.
