The article deals with a conceptual problem of organizational theory that consists in assuming an equivalency between organization and "social system." This means conceiving of organization as a specific type of social order. Using the analysis of the explanations given by members of an organization in crisis, the author observes how the arguments given justify themselves in connection with different cosmologies or general representations of the social limits of the organizational sphere. This analysis allows him to show the cosmology assumed by the sociology of organization to justify the identity of social order and organization.
