This article presents some aspects of the Weberian analysis of rural areas. It takes up two crosscutting issues: 1) the explanatory value given to ways of life and the organization of labor in the agrarian structure, and 2) the link between the former and political organization. The author refers particularly to four texts from Max Weber's early works, written between 1892 and 1896. The aim is to reflect critically on the great contribution comprehensive sociology makes to social agrarian studies.
