This article attempts to show how contemporary Mexican sociology has institutionally reproduced the characteristics of the growing fragmentation observable in society, a product of globalization. The author bases his analysis on approximately 2,000 articles published in Mexico's main sociological journals. He shows how sociology is increasingly diversified and polarized. He illustrates how the introduction of globalization in sociology correlates with a partial change in direction, from the study of the perpetrators of social problems to that of the victims. He also shows how globalization has made sociologists leave to one side the more normative discussions about how society changes.
