Abstract

OLVERA SERRANO, Margarita  and  SABIDO RAMOS, Olga. Un marco de análisis sociológico de los miedos modernos: vejez, enfermedad y muerte. Sociológica (Méx.) [online]. 2007, vol.22, n.64, pp.119-149. ISSN 2007-8358.

This article posits the study of fear as an object of sociological analysis in the framework of the socio-historical reconfigurations of modernity. The author aims to explain the transformations and variations of this social experience based on a look that goes beyond the current moment and moves into the signification of fear in the so-called initial mo-dernity, and thus establish a comparative criterion with recent modernity. In this sense, the article establishes how the process of individuation has radicalized certain fears about the self and the precariousness of the body, such as the fear of aging, pain, disease and death.

Keywords : initial modernity; contemporary modernity; process of individuation; body; emotions; fear; old age; pain; disease; death.
