Abstract

RAMIREZ PAREDES, Juan Rogelio. Música y sociedad: la preferencia musical como base de la identidad social. Sociológica (Méx.) [online]. 2006, vol.21, n.60, pp.243-270. ISSN 2007-8358.

This article starts off with the observation of the new forms of relations established between music and society that arose beginning in the second half of the twentieth century. It highlights a recent link between the generation of social identities and music. Therefore, it proposes the category of socio-musical identities to explain the phenomenon produced in a collective when a specific preference for a genre of music creates a certain identity. It goes on to outline the general characteristics of these identities.

Keywords : identity; social identity; individual identities; collective identities; socio-musical identities; musical discourse; socio-musical spaces.
