Abstract

HERNANDEZ ROBLES, Ana Karina  and  VARGAS VALLE, Eunice D.. Labor conditions of urban students and school dropout at the upper secondary level in Mexico. Estud. demogr. urbanos [online]. 2016, vol.31, n.3, pp.663-696. ISSN 2448-6515.

Based on the National Survey of Occupation and Employment 2012-2013, this article examines the association of student employment and its respective labor conditions (wages, working hours and branch of economic activity) with the high school dropout of urban youth in Mexico. The main findings confirm a strong association between student employment and dropping out of school, especially under certain labor conditions such as working more than half time, in the manufacturing industry or in low-paid activities.

Keywords : student employment; school dropout; labor conditions; youth.
