YANG, Liu y GARCIA FERNANDEZ, Gonzalo Andrés. Causes of the Political Right-Wing Resurgence in Chile and Argentina (2019-2024). Secuencia [online]. 2026, n.124, e2448. Epub 09-Feb-2026. ISSN 2395-8464. https://doi.org/10.18234/secuencia.v0i124.2448.
From the perspective of the relationship between neoliberalism and State capacity, this article analyzes the causes of the persistence of neoliberalism and the resurgence of right-wing political forces in Chile and Argentina over the past five years. The initial idea is that neoliberalism, by reconstructing production relations, erodes the State’s infrastructure capacity, which in turn generates a structure of differentiation, increasing institutional costs and consequently creating a favorable environment for its own persistence. In the cases of Chile and Argentina, neoliberalism has increased the costs of change and stability, demonstrating that the resurgence of the right in recent years is a result of this structure rather than its cause. In the part of conclusions, we argue for the necessity of forming an anti-neoliberal coalition.
