Abstract

AVILA CORONEL, Francisco. María Silvia Valdez García and Her Perspective from the Margins of History: The Issue of Care in the 23rd of September Communist League. Secuencia [online]. 2025, n.121, e2334.  Epub Mar 31, 2025. ISSN 2395-8464.  https://doi.org/10.18234/secuencia.v0i121.2334.

Androcentric historiography has privileged public settings predominantly occupied by hegemonic, virile men. Conversely, most women and subordinates have been overlooked in traditional history. The focus of this research is to decenter the narrative and reappraise the view of history from a feminist perspective. To this end, using a biographical approach, with an ethnographic, intersectional methodology, we sought to recover the voice and perspective of Silvia Valdez, a support base for the guerrilla movement, to shed light on her knowledge and reassess her affections, raising questions and reflecting on the silences and omissions of “the great historical narratives” and exploring the meaning of one of the most significant guerrilla actions in contemporary Mexican history, which led to the death of Eugenio Garza Sada, a leading businessman in Mexico from the 1940s to the early 1970s.

Keywords : September 23rd Communist League; kidnapping; guerrilla masculinities; history of women; ethics of care.
