Resumen

LECHUGA HERRERO, Daniela. Between Water and Asphalt. The Experience of Middle-Class Children in the Urban Spaces of the Mexico City, Mexico, 1928-1940. Secuencia [online]. 2023, n.115, e1996.  Epub 17-Mar-2023. ISSN 2395-8464.  https://doi.org/10.18234/secuencia.v0i115.1996.

The objective of this article is to approach the experience of middle-class children in the public space of the Mexico City between 1928 and 1940, based on a sample of eight oral history interviews. Through this methodology and making use of hemerographic sources, the dynamics of mobility and entertainment of children are analyzed. The research shows the knowledge that most of the interviewees had of their neighborhood and gives an account of the places they built themselves, thus avoiding the discourse of fear generated in the media and that sought to shape children’s movement. The main contribution of this work is that it allows us to analyze the experiences of middle-class minors beyond schools, detention centers, or the home, thus covering an area scarcely studied in childhood history.
