Abstract

HIDALGO PEGO, Mónica. Winds of Change in Tertiary Education: The Case of the College of San Ildefonso in Mexico City, 1834-1852. Secuencia [online]. 2015, n.91, pp.103-126. ISSN 2395-8464.

The paper examines the changes in tertiary education in Mexico by studying the case of the College of San Ildefonso. It focuses on the period between 1834 and 1852, when professors and college authorities, responding to the orders of education policymakers in Mexico, designed syllabuses for the institution that were completed with other provisions. Among the information gathered from these documents are the lectures, authors and texts used within the college's legal and theological teachings, and their degree of innovation, as reflected in the introduction of new branches of these sciences, and the objectives pursued by their introduction.

Keywords : Tertiary education; 19th century; San Ildefonso; theology; jurisprudence; renovation.
