Resumen

MORALES SCHMUKER, Eric. The Place of Religion. Sacred Spaces and Sacralization Practices of Germans from Rusia in the Central Pampa. Santa María Colony, 1908-1939. Secuencia [online]. 2014, n.90, pp.123-145. ISSN 2395-8464.

How can space be conceived, organized and controlled on the basis of religion? In recent years, studies into the "geography of religions" have provided tools for analyzing the spatial dimension of religion. On the basis of this proposal, this article explores the religious practices of the inhabitants of Santa María, a colony founded by Germans from Rusia in the Pampa region. More specifically, it studies the appropriation and redefinition of the rural space from a religious perspective, and the construction of a sacred circuit based on the sacralization practices of the settlers, from their arrival in the region until 1939, during which time the colony operated as an "ethnic-religious village", with leaders and institutions. Through a historical-cultural approach and the analysis of various sources (written, oral and material), the article explores the links between space, religion and ethnicity and their importance in the preservation of community identity.

Palabras llave : Germans from Rusia; colony; sacred spaces; sacralization practices; sacred circuit.
