Resumen

NUNEZ GARCIA, Víctor M.. The Origins of Mexican Liberalism: Elites and Power Groups in Puebla (1833-1857). Secuencia [online]. 2010, n.78, pp.43-87. ISSN 2395-8464.

After achieving independence from Spanish colonial domination, Mexico witnessed a process of political evolution that sought to establish the Nation-State and the creation and consolidation of the characteristic institutions of the liberal political model. All this would lead to the start of parliamentarization in Mexican political life and the changing of the leading classes -with certain filtrations- coupled with the emergence of a new political/parliamenrary elite linked to the various liberal options. This study focuses on the case of the parliamentary elite representing the state of Puebla in the chambers of the capital during the period from 1833 to 1857, using methodological strategies such as the prosopographic analysis and the reconstruction of biographical features. 1rs fundamental objectives are the analysis of the political and sociological profiles of this "exclusive" collective and the mechanisms or means of formation of power groups, and it uses the results as a possible model for the Mexican political elite for this historical period.
