TAYLOR HANSEN, Lawrence Douglas. The Gold that Glitters on the Other Side: Transborder Aspects of the California Gold Fever, 1848-1862. Secuencia [online]. 2010, n.77, pp.41-58. ISSN 2395-8464.

This article analyzes the main transborder aspects of the period of the Californian gold fever period, from the start of the migrations of the prospectors in 1848 to the early 1860s. In particular, it examines the migration of Sonora residents and other Mexicans to California's gold fields, as well as their contributions to the development of mining technology for the exploitation and processing of minerals. It also considers the groups of gold diggers that set off for California via the routes that crossed Mexico and the results of their contacts and interaction with local inhabitants. The author ends by discussing the penetration from 1851 onwards of foreign prospectors in Sonora and Baja California and the repercussions of these entries on stability and order in these regions.
