The following article provides an integral view of the historiographic corpus of Nuevo León produced between 1867 and 1996. It attempts to detect the stages and periods during this long period of time of institutional conditions, academic trends and positions of authors that have characterized historiographic practice in the state. It also identifies the most representative historians and their respective works, which have established certain guidelines in the way of investigating and writing the regional history of the Mexican northeast.
