The Diaspora of blacks that first rose up in 1791 and then fought on the Spanish side in Santo Domingo between 1 793 and 1 795 led Jorge Biassou, the former leader of part of the Auxiliary Troops on that island, to be sent to Florida. There, the appointed black "general" failed to see the fulfillment of all the royal promises he has made to win his adherence to Spain. However, due to the Spanish authorities need to obtain militias of color, Biassou's dream was fulfilled, albeit post mortem, when he was appointed a Spanish official.
