This paper briefly explores some of the archaeological proposals of the first three decades of the twentieth century, highlighting the main debates regarding the exploration of Teotihuacán. It is shown that even though the discussions reveal the conflicts among characters, projects and institutions, they also offer a glimpse of the various work proposals of each actor and their different backgrounds and traditions. The lack of consensus allows us, at the same time, to observe the construction process of the discipline of archeology, trying to escape from those interpretations that consider the stratigraphic method introduced by Franz Boas the watershed that led to the achievement of the scientific nature of archeology.
